This painting started with some markmaking in a landscape format and, although I worked on it from all 4 directions I was expecting it to stay that way round. But ...late one night I was sitting on the floor really staring at it and it was this way up. As I stared this small circle appeared in the bottom left corner and slowly it grew and grew and grew and clearly insisted on being a large, green sad face called "I Weep for the Forest" so it was my job to make that happen. It was an absolutely mindblowing moment which I have never forgotten. I have hung on to this painting for many years as it holds such a powerful message for me

I'm fascinated by Salt Lakes. Many people would think they were boring but I see them as having a harsh beauty with wonderful lights on them at dawn and dusk. But many of them were not always salt lakes, they've become like that over time with over clearing and drought. I often wonder about their history and the stories they could tell... .

It was cold and wet one Winter's day so I cheered myself up by having fun creating some early layers, pure abstract marks over collage elements and watching paint dry. (bliss!).
A couple of days later when I went into the studio the sun had come out - It's amazing what a difference the sun makes to your mood and to your palette! All those yellows just took over! To me the painting now feels sunny and sort of happy, outdoorsy, connecting with nature...

I've always loved nature and am very into saving the planet so this artwork combines the two. I'm recycling my Mum's old kitchen curtains as part of the ground -they turn up all over the place as they make such interesting textures and I didn't want to send them to landfill.

This started life as a scribbly pen drawing on litho paper. I then tore up the drawing and it ended up on a series of 7 small canvases just called "Little Bits of Fun". I am now revisiting these bits of fun and creating new standalone artworks. This is the first one - it told me it wanted to be called "The Melt" so I had to work to this title!.

This painting has always had a coastal feel and I've worked on it all 4 ways. It has gradually developed more of a watery feel with a series of rockpools. It could be hung any way up but I've settled on this orientation - there are 2 hangers on it though!
